We finally arrived at the hotel, and we had the option to choose who we wanted our roommate to be, so I chose my friends, of course.

The hotel is amazing. It was like stepping into a dream world. As we entered the grand lobby, we were greeted by sparkling chandeliers and marble floors.

The atmosphere was so luxurious, with plush velvet couches and beautiful artwork adorning the walls.

I kind of felt out of place.

Our room was absolutely stunning. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a breathtaking view of the city skyline through the windows.

Kehlani wasted no time and leaped onto the bed, which was adorned with the softest, silkiest sheets and the fluffiest pillows.

"Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this!" she exclaimed, her excitement palpable as she rolled around on the bed.

Meanwhile, Ciara finally managed to make her way into the room, huffing and puffing. "Why is this suitcase so heavy?" she grumbled.

Kehlani and I exchanged looks, trying our best not to say, "I told you so." We rolled our eyes playfully.

"Alright, you guys, gather around," Kehlani beckoned, settling herself gracefully on the bed with a magazine in her hands.

With a pat on the seats beside her, we both joined her, taking our places on either side.

"Now, where should we go first?" she asked, flipping through the glossy pages of the magazine.

The teachers gave us the option of exploring the area for three hours.

"I think we should head to Central Park," Ciara suggested, her fingers tapping eagerly on the picture of the park in the magazine.

"I'm totally on board with that." I nodded, my excitement evident in my voice.

As a first-time visitor to New York, I was eager to explore the whole city. Most people were in their beds sleeping, but there was no way I was going to waste any time sitting and doing nothing.

"I also noticed there's an ice skating rink nearby," Kehlani said, her excitement overflowing. She wrapped her arms around us tightly, causing us to topple over onto the bed with squeals.

"Come on, Zhera, give it a shot," Kehlani urged, her eyes filled with determination.

I shook my head.

We were currently at the ice rink, with the skates clutched tightly in my hands, while Ciara and Kehlani were on the ice.

It's been ages since I last skated, and the thought of it sent shivers down my spine.

"Just try it once, that's all," Ciara pleaded, reaching out to take my hand. With a sigh, I reluctantly took a step onto the ice. But, in an instant, my legs betrayed me, causing me to slip.

"Nope, not happening." I quickly retreated, shaking my head vigorously. There was no way I was going to risk face-planting on the ice.

"You guys, go ahead and have a blast. I'll just chill over there," I said, pointing towards a cozy spot nearby.

They exchanged skeptical glances, concern evident in their eyes. "Are you absolutely sure?" they asked, their voices filled with worry.

"We really don't want to leave you alone," Khelani added.

I smiled warmly, assuring them, "Seriously, guys, I'm positive. I don't mind at all. So go on and enjoy yourselves." They let out a sigh of relief and nodded in agreement while I made my way towards the bench.

Taking this chance to finally take the place in. It's as if there's a serene and enchanting beauty that surrounds me. The park, which is already a stunning sight throughout the year, becomes even more beautiful during the winter.

The trees stand tall, adorned with delicate icicles glistening in the soft light, and beautiful Christmas lights.

I spotted Ciara and Kehlani gliding swiftly on the lake, both waving at me when they saw me. Everyone looked happy on their skates: family, friends, and couples. They all looked happy.

It's moments like these that make winter my favourite time of the year. It brings me such a sense of peace, especially since it's my birthday season.

The air was refreshingly crisp, just the perfect temperature—not too cold, just nice. Everything felt so cozy and inviting. In that moment, I felt completely at peace, taking in the atmosphere around me.

As I took a deep breath, savouring the scene, I heard a familiar voice calling my name, one that I eagerly wanted to hear. "Zhera."

My heart raced with anticipation as I turned to my left, and there he was—Aiden, making his way towards me.

"Hi," I said, my voice filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Aiden sat down beside me, his smile gentle and warm. Our legs brushing against each other, creating a subtle touch that sent shivers through my body.

"So, you're here to skate?" Aiden asked, his gaze fixed on the skating rink.

"Not me, but my friends."

I couldn't help but notice how Aiden nodded as he rubbed his fingers across his exposed neck. Was he cold? His nose was a shade of pink, and he didn't seem to be fully covered. Suddenly, an idea came.

I slowly reached up and loosened the scarf from around my neck. The fabric was soft against my skin, and I couldn't help but notice the intricate pattern woven into it.

I held the scarf in my hands. Without a second thought, I scooted closer to him, and before he could react, I swiftly wrapped the scarf around his neck.

For a moment, there was a look of surprise in Aiden's eyes, which was quickly replaced with a look of confusion. He reached for the scarf, about to remove it, but I gently placed my hands over his, halting his movements.

"Thompson," he began, "why are you giving me your scarf?"

I met his gaze. "You look cold," I explained.

Aiden's hazel eyes bore into mine, searching for answers. I averted my gaze for a brief moment. "I'm about to head back soon, so it's fine," I reassured him.

He studied me for a moment, his expression softening. Without a word, Aiden reached down and zipped up my jacket all the way to my neck. "Then, you better head soon, okay, Thompson?" he said.

I felt both touched and slightly flustered at the gesture he made, then lowered my head slightly, offering a nod as a sign of agreement.

A moment passed, then Aiden talked, "Can we tal-" Before he could finish his sentence, a voice interrupted us by calling out his name.

We turned to see a guy waving in our direction, accompanied by a group of people. Among them, I recognized Alejandro, Leigha, and a few others who often hung out with Aiden.

Aiden's face twisted into a scowl as he reluctantly stood up. "I have to go now, but we'll talk later, alright?"

Disappointed, I agreed with a slight bob of the head.

As Aiden began to walk towards his friends, my heart sank a little, wanting so spend more time with him.

But just as my disappointment started to settle in, he suddenly turned around, his eyes locked with mine. With a tender smile playing on his lips, he raised his hand and gave me a wave.

In that moment, it felt like time stood still. The soft glow of the setting sun highlighted the warmth in his beautiful eyes, and a gentle breeze tousled his hair.

I couldn't help but return his wave with a shy smile.

I really do like him.
