To the wondrous day unto the splendorous night, we shall fight for our say with all our might: How very encouraging, no? Thought up on the spot, mind you, so you better say it is in fact encouraging because I felt smart after writing it. I went to like a million second hand stores today and bought like a ton of super adorable shirts. And who says new clothes are better? Plus, I think I lost a fan and then gained two in their place … interesting … But I’ve kept my first fan for a long time now. How many people can say they kept their very first fan? Not many! Thank you, BraldWicca! You are the best, even if I haven’t heard from you in around 6 months.

I Was Dared to Love You (A Draco Malfoy Love Story)

Chapter 31: Hot Cocoa and the Vengeance of Mrs. Jesperson

-Part 2-: His Three Little Words

It was well past 9 o’clock by now. The cocoa my mother just had to make, was surprisingly still in the process of being made. She had been talking to herself ever since we all had bustled in and changed out of our snow gear. It was now dripping wet and soggy.

“Add a little of this, and snip dash of that, pretty, pretty little kitty! Stir, stir, I gotta stir!” sang my mother from the kitchen. She was very annoying when cooking her favorite dishes. Plus we don’t own a kitty cat, never had. But one year my mother had painted a cat’s face on the side of her most used cooking pot. It’s rather hideous in its own right, but it cooked good food so we never complain.

Whenever someone got too near the kitchen counter, where she was slicing and powdering her marshmallows, while the milk warmed in the cat pot, she would flip a lid and start yelling about personal space and other insults. Poor Greggie was near tears when she told him how lame his hair was and that rebelling was a stupid way to get what he wanted. He was now in my brother’s room, sobbing while yelling incoherent jumbles. The words “hair,” “fuck,” and “lame-tard” were about all that was heard from Devon’s room for the past hour.

“Mother! Are you near done yet?” I yelled from the couch, a safe distance from where, if she threw anything, it wouldn’t reach. My mom had a weak arm and a crappy aim. I wouldn’t put it against her to throw a butcher knife, though, when she got interrupted. The news was on, describing the large storm surging over the Upper Peninsula. It was sure to pass over our area, drowning us in a white blanket over one simple night. Gavin had been called to come home right away to take his bath. He’s twelve … and still takes a bath?

            Weird.

“Coooming~” came the sing-song voice of my mom as she flitted in with a silver platter and two snowman mugs. She was gripping the handles of the tray so hard that her knuckles were a shade of off white. This was a sure sign that she was stressed and worried about my dad, who had yet to come home. The storm was coming in quickly, too quickly for her taste. If my dad didn’t make it home in the next hour, he’d be stuck at the office. What’s so bad about that, aside from the obvious? Well, if he didn’t come home, didn’t sleep in the same bed as my mother for the night, and wasn’t around until morning, who would distract Momma Mouse for the night?

            I would.

So Dad, get your ass home.

With a great effort, she set the platter onto the coffee table in from of the couch. The brown warm liquid sloshed and in between the two mugs was a dish of white blobs. Leaning forward I use the small silver tongs to pick up a few and plop them into the snowman mug with the maroon scarf, which had been mine since I was eleven. Draco, following my lead, asked me for the tongs and, after I handed them over, started adding some to his own. His mug was a snowman with a green scarf. The irony, huh?

Taking a cautious sip, I relish in the hotness and sweet texture. Giving a soft moan of comfort, I take a bigger gulp, burning my throat, but warming my heart on the way down. My mom heaved a sigh from above me, where she was standing and watching us, happy I had enjoyed it.

“Cheers,” Draco mutters before taking a big swig of chocolate goodness. His eyes went wide and he almost instantly took another drink, taking a 'mellow along the way. Chewing, he nods with a gleeful expression on his face to my mother. Her turquoise eyes shined with happiness and she jumped up and clapped loudly. After a few moments the vision of my mom hustling back to get some for herself was seen.

“Quick, skedaddle while you still can!” I whisper in a false quiet tone. Jumping from the couch, I grab Draco’s wrist and drag him across the room into the hallway. Once reaching my bedroom, I tossed him in, probably spilling cocoa all over his shirt, proceeding to close the door behind me.

            “Phew, we got out.”

Draco wasn’t listening though, instead he was staring around my room. It wasn’t anything special. My room, I mean. The walls were orange, the carpeting blue. There were walls dominated by random poster such as Jedi Knights, actors I no longer cared for, and pictures printed from offline. Next to my dresser I had photos of friends and I together, plus drawings and letters from people I like. Shoved into the edges of my full length mirror were yet again, more pictures. A ceiling to floor bookshelf dominated one corner, storing multiple series and a set of encyclopedias from my aunt Therese (great gift Aunt T, reallygreat). Nick-knacks were used as bookends; it was my haven.

“Cozy,” Draco finally commented while reading the spines of books, his drink left on one level. Everything was spotless, due to my mother’s crazy hatred for dust and bed bugs.

“Yeah,” I said while smiling happily into my snowman. Taking a sip, I set it down on my side table, the one next to my bed. Walking over to my bookshelf, I sit in the window seat, settling in almost instantly. Staring out into my backyard brought back memories. When Lucy and I would run and pick flowers for our moms, when I would chase Devon for drawing in permanent marker on my Ken doll in funny places, and especially when Gavin would be caught peeping like Tom in my window during the summer. Sighing quietly, I lean against the cold window. Now the garden was covered in snow and the trees where leafless. Everything was crystallized and frozen. All in all, everything was beautiful.

“Violet,” Draco interrupted my internal thoughts with.

“Yeah?” I say without turning around. I could feel his body heat next to mine, warming me on one side while the window cooled the other. Scooting a bit away from the window, I get closer to Draco, still not looking up.

A soft hand on my cheek is what finally causes me to meet those gray eyes. Above me was his other hand, leaning against the wall, keeping him up as he lowered his face near mine. The way his soft breath touched my skin left me feeling like a love-struck fool, blushing lightly. That small smile on his lips made me stop breathing all together, afraid to interrupt the moment. And when I noticed how close he was to me, I finally realized where this was going. Just as I figured it out, his lips touched mine softly, not pressuring me. Still, it sent a frenzy of goosebumps and tingles through my body, leaving me edgy for more. I cautiously place my hand on his cheek, happy to have the action returned. It was simple, beautiful, and all I could possibly ask for. As I was getting content with this moment, not wanting to leave it, my chest squeezed, begging for air it didn’t have.

Separating with a much needed gasp, I smile girlishly. Draco was still so near me, taking in deep breaths like I was, staring through a daze. He slowly put his forehead on mine, getting just as close as before, relishing in my touch. Just as his lips were grazing mine, the Slytherin I had won over with a bloody dare said the last thing I expected, but in a sense, hoped for.

            “I love you.”
